Did you know our bodies contain several energy pathways that feed life into all of our cells? When these energy pathways become blocked, a damming effect may lead to discomfort or even pain. This blockage or stagnation will disrupt a particular area and may continue to disharmonize the energy flow of certain pathways.

Through Jin Shin Jyutsu (pronounced gin shin ji-oo-it-su), our awareness is awakened that we present the ability to harmonize and balance ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually. Let’s learn more about this ancient art of healing…

What is Jin Shin Jyutsu?

Jin Shin Jyutsu originated in Japan about a century ago. The name “Jin Shin Jyutsu” literally translates to “The Art of the Creator Through the Person of Knowing and Compassion.”

It is similar to acupressure in the sense that it uses light touch over specific areas of the body to balance and restore the energy flow to a more harmonious state. Jin Shin Jyutsu addresses the body, mind, and spirit of the person and supports the body’s innate ability to balance itself.

Think of it this way: You instinctually place your hands on your body to soothe an area of discomfort. For example, when our lower back hurts, or we have a headache, we naturally hold the areas of tension to help alleviate the pain. What you’re actually doing is opening those energy pathways to facilitate relief — you’re basically practicing Jin Shin Jyutsu!

This treatment alleviates stress/tensions, eliminates fatigue, relieves pain, balances emotions, boosts the immune system, and promotes mental alertness. This therapy is a pleasurable experience, generally, one of deep relaxation, and the benefits are usually felt immediately.

How Does Jin Shin Jyutsu Work?

Like other ancient healing systems, Jin Shin Jyutsu is founded upon the principle that health or illness is associated with either the harmony or imbalance of our vital life force energy called “chi.” According to its teachings, our bodies contain energetic pathways by which chi flows in order to feed life into cells and nourish internal organs. When one or more of these pathways become restricted, it can lead to pain, discomfort, or disease.

Jin Shin Jyutsu employs the use of twenty-six “Safety Energy Locks,” similar to acupressure points to address disharmony in the body. By stimulating these areas with gentle finger pressure and holding them in particular combinations along the body, the body’s energetic system is balanced and restored to a more harmonious state. This harmonizing sequence re-patterns blocked energy to address the causes of imbalance in the body.

Jin Shin Jyutsu has been shown to:

  • Relieve pain
  • Alleviate acute and chronic conditions
  • Eliminate stress and fatigue
  • Promote optimal immune function
  • Improve sleep
  • Improve digestion
  • Create emotional equilibrium
  • Expand consciousness

What Happens During a Jin Shin Jyutsu Treatment?

Your Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner will first talk with you about your health history and health goals. Then she or he will use assessment tools to determine a proper treatment plan to address your particular condition.

You’ll lie comfortably on a treatment table while fully clothed as the practitioner places their hands/fingers in troubled areas. This practice does not involve massage or physical manipulation of tissue.

A Jin Shin Jyutsu session generally lasts about an hour.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The frequency and number of treatments differ from person to person. Some people experience dramatic relief in the first treatment. However, for complex or long-standing chronic conditions, one to two treatments per week for several months may be recommended. For acute problems, fewer visits are required, usually eight to ten visits in total. An individualized treatment plan that includes the expected number of treatments will be discussed during your initial visit.
