Sometimes the word “exercise” sounds way too much like work, so I like to call it “movement” instead.
We tend to think we have to run for miles each day, or go to the gym in order to get the physical activity we need, but the truth is that there are many ways to get moving, and it can actually be enjoyable!
What is movement?
It’s any activity that’s fun for you and gets your body moving!
Your body is made to move. Certain functions of the body absolutely depend on it!
Therefore, movement is actually a type of fuel for your body, just like food.
It stimulates and generates energy and good moods, plus it’s a fun way to get outside and connect with nature, and can even be a way to bond with friends and family.
Now, you may be thinking that getting out and moving just sounds like one more thing to add to the to-do list, but you may not realize that many of the activities you already do (and love) count as movement! What?
Fun and healthy? Could it be? Absolutely!! And to get your creative juices flowing,
I’ve listed 25 activities you may not have thought of as “exercise”, but that absolutely get your body up and moving, with wonderful results! What other activities do you like to do that you could add?

How do I choose my movement activity and add it to my day?
What movement did you love to do as a kid? Roller skate? Hula hoop? Golf?
Choose a type of movement that you loved but don’t seem to do anymore – you’ll feel like a kid again!
Pick a few that don’t need any planning – playing in the yard, rollerblading, skateboarding, and hula hooping are all things you can do at a moment’s notice!
Add this movement to your day by starting with a regular 10-minute appointment – for you the might be first thing in the morning, or at lunch, or after work.
Choose a couple of others that might take some planning or scheduling, like kayaking or completing a ropes course, and plan a time that you could get some friends or the family together to enjoy this activity.
It will be worth the effort!
What if I have some physical challenges?
Many people struggle with past injuries, weak joints and a multitude of other challenges that make it difficult to get regular physical activity.
Solving these issues may be a simple as a dietary change to reduce inflammation, or as in-depth as working with a physical therapist to improve mobility.
